Tim Walker's Sketchbooks

this is my idea of an amazing/inspiring sketchbook. just pack full of pictures and drawings. in tim walkers sketchbooks you get a real sense of his working methods and inspiration just by looking at pictures and quick sketches.  Everything he thought of went into his sketchbooks, whether it was a good idea or not. They are also littered with callsheets for Vogue shoots. Whenever he found something he loved it would go into his sketchbooks. i love the layout of them and how he hasn't laid photos side by side but placed them at different angles and directions across the page. i really like how he layers everything and doesn't always use glue but tape and ribbon instead. i dont really know what else to say about them, they are just breath taking and totally inspirational, perfect in my eyes. i really wish i had gone and seen his exhibition in london a couple of years ago.

self portraits

My first task for Photography was to take a self portrait each day for seven days. i didn't want to take pictures of my face, because thats the typical thing to do right? i have just had fun with my pictures. i think self portraits say a lot about someone, so they are the perfect why to express your self. they are also good for experimenting with lighting, props, angles and effects! i have tried to experiment as much as possible to make my images interesting to look at.

Camilla Akrans

Camilla Akrans is another fashion photographer. she is one of my favourites! Akrans’ work is a real breath of fresh air, with light, simple and romantic shots in pastel colours, unlike many photographers who prefer the security and control of a photographic studio, Akrans prefers to shoot outdoors. she has done spreads for magazines such as Vogue, Numero, Harper’s Bazaar and The New York Style Magazine.
she loves working with natural light supposed to studio lighting, and that shows through her beautiful images she creates. her photos are hauntingly magical. i could sit and look through her work all day. she really knows how to make the most simplest of locations look breathtaking and interesting., this is something i would love to be able to do.

take a look for yourselves :) xo

Dan Martensen

Photographer Dan Martensen knows a thing or two about fashion photography. Whether he is shooting the latest editorial spreads, lookbooks or advertising campaigns, he's always reinventing his shots and adding meaning to his portraits. His work has been shown in photography shows around the world, His portrait and fashion work has appeared in magazines such as I.D, GQ, Vman and Teen Vouge. He has also shot campaigns for H&M, Costume National, Anna Sheffield and Converse One Star and has worked with designers such as Alexandra Wang and Even Yurman.
A lot of his Fashion Photographs are in black and white and have a grainy effect. this is what i love about his work. i believe shooting in black and white gives you a purer image. it forces you to see the image not the colour. i also think it can convey purity of emotion and action and when you look at Martensen's work you can see the emotion and meaning behind the photograph.
Looking through his online portfolios, some of this photographs give a autobiographical feel to them and come across more casual than his planned out fashion projects. I also think he picks the most beautiful locations to shoot in. Martensen has a raw style that is dominant throughout all his work.
he is definitely one to look at. enjoy :) xxxo
